serving families with dignity and grace

Our goal is to serve the families in our community, not an out-of-state corporation or their board of directors. We appreciate family ties, local customs, and community traditions. Just like you, we support our local schools, charities, and businesses. I recently used their services with the passing of my mother in August.

JD was so helpful and compassionate with our family. The prices and services were wonderful and made this difficult time for our family so stress-free. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. I can't stress how thankful I am to La Funeral Services.

Our Owosso location was established in 1880 by Myron H. Knapp and John Peters. In 1887, Peters sold his half of the business to Frank C. Smith, renaming the business to Knapp & Smith Funeral Home. After Frank’s death in 1901, Myron’s son-in-law Fred W. Smith joined him in business. In 1926, a new funeral home building was constructed on the corner of Park and Mason Street, the former site of the Owosso Armory, and our current location today. In 1949, Paul W. Ruggles purchased the funeral home, later selling interests in the firm to Paul W. Ruggles II and Bob W. Nelson in 1971. On February 1, 1980, Bob Nelson and his cousin Harold “Sonny” House Jr. purchased the funeral home in entirety and incorporated it as Nelson-House Funeral Homes.

Our #1 priority is caring for our friends and neighbors, being right there when you need us the most. Please let the funeral director know that you found Nelson-House Funeral Home on Parting.comto allow us to continue helping families like yours.

I had the unfortunate task of planning a funeral service for my mom. JD and his team did an excellent job guiding me and my brothers through the process and making it as easy as possible. She was so compassionate and loving with me because I was having a difficult time. I really appreciate everything they did for my mom and my family.

We will be trustworthy, sincere, and respectful at all times. It is a heart to serve that drives us and empowers us to offer you compassion, listening ears, and answers to your questions. Many individuals have not experienced the loss of a loved one and never have been tasked with making final arrangements.
